We are pleased to offer you what is perhaps the most famous, or rather infamous mask in all of historical clothing, the bauta mask. Seen routinely in historical films, or modern thrillers, the bauta mask was a common accessory in Continental European, as well as British and North American balls and masquerades. The bauta style mask originated in Venice, where it would have been used to hide the identity of the wearer during both masquerades, as well as political functions.
This mask would be appropriate for any 17th to early 19th century masquerade, ball or gathering. Our bauta mask is an exact reproduction of the original masks, being produced out of wet formed leather and painted, as well as finished with period materials and paints. The mask itself is tied to the user's head with twill tape and can easily fit the user's face with a cocked hat upon his (or in some cases her) head. While this may be worn as a costume piece, the mask is a period correct historical reproduction and suitable for living history, or reenacting events with the highest quality standards.
This item is made to order and will be ready in less than one to two weeks (usually sooner) from the order date.
All items are sold as is and are produced on a per order basis; each work is a custom piece and reproduced (where applicable) by hand and using period materials as close as possible to the original materials used in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. All items may be subject to a delay and currently each item will require one to two weeks to produce and ship from our workshop, unless otherwise noted. All bespoke modern and historical clothing and items are dependent upon the measurements provided by you, the buyer and we cannot take responsibility for mishitting items as a result of improperly provided measurements and associated requirements.
