We are pleased to offer you this period correct reproduction of the 18th century game entitled "The Royal and Most Pleasant Game of Goose Board Game". Though this specific version dates to the 18th century, this game can find its roots centuries earlier in Italy, being one of many such games produced for both adults and children.

This version of the game comes to you on laid linen paper, with hand cut period correct game pieces made using pine and hand finished with period milk paints. The games pieces have also been finished with a period sealer, as to ensure that they do not rub off on the playing purpose, to the extent possible. Further, this board has been adhered to line fabric, as was often the case, as to permit it to be both stronger and capable of easily being folded away. Though children can play this game and learn quite a bit from it, especially in relation to mathematics, this game was also played for the purpose of gambling, with the included red pieces being not only "stakes", but also potentially gambling pieces intended to represent your stake in the game. Primarily, this would have been the purpose of this game in the earlier Italian period and would have continued into the 18th century in this British incarnation. We are now pleased to note that the set includes two wooden dice, hand made by my husband. Though the majority of dice in the period were bone, we have provided this set at no additional cost to you, the buyer, so that you may use it "out of the box".
