This digital pattern recreates a classic 19th and 20th Century dress shield, an accessory designed to preserve garments and extend their wear. Drawing inspiration from a vintage example in my collection, the pattern reproduces the practical ingenuity of early to mid-century dressmaking. The download includes patterns in two sizes, accompanied by instructions for constructing the shields in lightweight cottons, which was the material most commonly used on vintage examples. There is also guidance on attaching or removing the shields for laundering.
