This text, entitled "The Art of Manual Defense or System of Boxing", would have to be one of my husband's favourite books within our collection. Written by a self professed student of the legendary 18th century boxers Richard Humphreys and Daniel Mendoza, a Jewish Portuguese boxer and the English Boxing Champion of the 1790s, regarded as one of the greatest boxers in history. This work, inclusive of a series of beautifully detailed plates, instructs the reader on the necessary skills, techniques and attributes required to be a successful boxer in the later portion of the 18th century. This is a wonderful instructional piece for those wanting to recreate 18th and early 19th century boxing, as well as boxing fans and historians. We highly recommend this work to any and all of our clients.
